We are a group of people committed to improving the lives of amputees.
Our aim is to provide practical information guidance and support to assist people do 'do more with less'.
The
services we provide include:

Providing Information, Advise & Support
Publishing a 2monthly newsletter with information on a wide range of issues affecting amputees from practical handy hints on health issues of concern eg. skin care to information on services available in the community.
Continuing to
develop our website to bring you the latest easily accessible,
information on a wide range of topics.
Providing 'A New
Challenge' Booklet written by amputees for
amputees.
Providing
'Purpose' a national magazine for amputees.

Assisting to improve rehabilitation by:
Providing a visiting service
which, where possible, matches age, gender and level of
amputation with the person being visited. For new amputees this
can be a motivating experience seeing someone in a similar
situation who is fit healthy and in many cases working full
time.
Supporting research into
rehabilitation of amputees. We are currently involved in the
research project in Christchurch focused on improving
rehabilitation for amputees. An aim of this research is to produce
standards of 'Best Practice' for Health Professionals involved in
supporting amputees.

Education of Health Professionals:
Providing education sessions for Health
Professionals particularly Physiotherapists and Social Workers to
assist them to support amputees to realise their full potential.

Taxi Vouchers
Managing the taxi
voucher system whereby eligible amputees receive taxi vouchers
which significantly reduce the cost of taxi transport.

Advocating
Advocating on behalf
of amputees to ensure that our voice is heard at the highest level
of service provision. The Amputee Federation has an amputee
representative
on the
Artificial Limb Board which provides prothestic services
throughout NZ.

Free Membership for first financial year!
Membership with the Amputee Society of Canterbury & Westland Inc. is free for the
financial year in which you join. Thereafter for the small
investment of $10 a year you can remain a member and receive those
benefits available to members.
